B.M. aka 'Sawmill'
My name is BM. My first backpacking experience was about three years ago. I went with a guy who is a triple crown hiker (Wildcat), who I know from a local outdoor store. A group of us stayed in a shelter in the Smokies located off the Appalachian Trail. As we settled into camp, I was outside the shelter with a saw, cutting up wood. Someone one inside said, "it sounds like a Sawmill out there”. That’s where I get the trail name SawMill. For that trip, I brought 7 layers of shirts, 4 layers of bottoms, and my pack weighed around 50lbs. I have come a long way!! That trip is also where my love of backpacking began!!
I grew up and currently live in East Tennessee. I am about 20 minutes away from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I am thankful to live so close to the mountains, and that I found backpacking. It is a great way for me to escape to the outdoors and decompress from my career in Law Enforcement. I have served as a Law Enforcement Officer for the past 8 1/2 years. I currently serve as a patrol unit and SWAT Team Sniper. The stresses of the job as a Police Officer can be demanding. My hope is that I can share my love for the outdoors with others I work with, and others that serve as first responders.
I am currently finishing all 900 miles of trails in the Smokies, I will be done this year. When I am not in the mountains, I have found a new passion, which is triathlon races. I absolutely love pushing myself mentally and physically and triathlon has definitely done this for me. I pride myself in setting goals and then following through with them. I have several other goals that I want to complete, so stay tuned, there is definitely more to come.
I am so excited and thankful to be an ambassador for Paratus. A growing company made in the USA, I couldn’t ask for a better company to represent.
